About Us
Welcome to Whanganui Walking Tours!
We are a passionate group of volunteers dedicated to showcasing the beauty and rich history of Whanganui. With over 900 years of settlement and 180 years of European presence since Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi) in 1840, our city is a vibrant tapestry of stories and cultures.
Our awa, the Whanganui River, was the first river in the world to be recognised as an indivisible and living being, after being granted personhood by an act of the New Zealand Parliament, in 2017.
Whanganui became New Zealand’s first UNESCO City of Design in November 2021, highlighting our thriving arts community and commitment to creativity and culture.
Join us on a journey through Whanganui’s streets to discover hidden gems, hear captivating stories, and explore our rich cultural landscape. Whether you’re a resident or a visitor, our tours offer a unique connection to our city’s past and present.
Thank you for considering Whanganui Walking Tours. We look forward to sharing our stories with you!
